President
Jennifer Torres
Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I have been a part of HOSA as an officer/intern since freshman year. I am highly dedicated to this organisation which is shown through my commitment and contribution as an officer.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I believe I can uphold and lead HOSA as President due to my experience as an officer. I am grateful to HOSA for all of the opportunities it has provided me with, and wish to give them to new and existing members. I want to continue supporting the organisation and contribute to our members as well as our community.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I have served as HOSA freshman intern, reporter, and secretary. I am the NEHS community service chair, and have several years of teaching and communication experience. Due to my experience being an officer for the last three years has developed my skills in areas such as communication, leadership, organisation, problem solving, and time management. Working closely with the other officers for several years and learning from them has granted me many skills that I am forever grateful for, and wish to apply to in the role as HOSA President.
Tell us more about yourself.
I would describe myself as someone who is hardworking and conscientious in my work. I take pride in the quality of my work. From my previous experience in HOSA, I have gained the necessary leadership experience it takes to lead this organisation. I have gained interpersonal and communication skills, allowing me to effectively communicate and work with not only officers but other members as well. Being a part of HOSA since my freshman year has only furthered my passion for this organisation, and I hope I get the chance to continue being a leading role in it.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
I would like to continue upholding HOSA traditions such as the Halloween haunted house and Christmas party. I would also like to introduce more medical focused workshops, teaching students skills such as CPR, First Aid, and Vital signs and even offer CPR certifications to our members through organisations such as the AHA.

Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I am qualified to be a HOSA officer due to my leadership, interpersonal skills, and dedication. I believe in servant leadership, where I don't lead for the sake of the position or my benefit, I lead to serve the members and my community. Using my interpersonal skills, I thoroughly enjoy making close relationships with the officers, advisors, and, most importantly, the members. I also have previous experience in leading large organizations in officer positions. HOSA has been a large part of my high school career, and I have dedicated my time and energy to it because I love and enjoy it so much, My experience, leadership, and interpersonal skills, as well as my dedication, are what makes me qualified to be a HOSA officer.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
The reason why I want to become a HOSA officer is that I want to be able to serve this organization at a higher level. I have been a part of HOSA since my freshman year and have loved every part of it. While observing the officers and being one myself, I've realized that serving this community with a higher responsibility is what I want to do. I want to organize, create, and learn alongside a fellow team with the same desires. Which ultimately led me to apply for an officer position. It would be an absolute honor to be able to be a part of the team that continues to lead and service HOSA, and its members, on the successful path it's on.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I have had the opportunity to have various types of leadership experiences throughout my high school career. I have served as a Social Officer for the Royal Pride Drill Team since sophomore year. In that position, I and a team of 6 other girls, are responsible for all the members on drill team. We make sure that team morale is positive, plan parties and social events, as well as be a role models and leading by example. Those are just a few of the many things I do as a Social Officer. I also had the honor of serving as Social Chair for HOSA this past year, in which I was in charge of planning and executing social events for the organization. I learned a lot this past year of how HOSA is run and what it needs to continue being successful which I hope to use in my presidency, if elected. Another leadership experience that I currently have, is serving on a youth council for the catholic churches for Galveston-Houston. My job is planning, delegating, and putting on big events for junior high and high school students. Some leadership skills I possess is being an active-listener, good communicator, and strong interpersonal skills.
Tell us more about yourself.
I am an upcoming senior with plans to attend college and eventually medical school in hopes of pursuing a career in pediatrics or psychiatry. I love getting to meet, interact, and create relationships with new people. I am very much a talkative person and enjoy public speaking when I can. I also thoroughly enjoy dancing and I am a part of the Royal Pride Drill team. Academics and my involvement in the community have always been top priorities in my life. I am very dedicated to my grades and learning and volunteer whenever I can.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
Some ideas for the upcoming school year would be an end of the year banquet, where we honor and say goodbye to our seniors. Another idea would be having a social event named, HOSA Olympics, where we can compete in games against grades as a fun and interactive icebreaker at the beginning of the year. I also have an idea of presenting awards at the end of the year to members with the most volunteer hours, most dedicated, etc.

Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I am into my second year serving as an officer within GOHOSA, and have gained an enormous amount of experience and opportunity during my time as sophomore intern and this year as reporter. My roles and their duties were well established, but I went beyond them…many times. As sophomore intern, I worked closely with that year’s current reporter, assisting her with the creation of newsletters and announcements, whilst introducing new concepts such as cancer awareness and health occupation exploration. That time spent with her, that experience, allowed me to succeed so much in my current role as the 2022-2023 GOHOSA reporter. This year, I have once again stepped beyond duties and roles. Not only did I continue my work creating the monthly newsletters, but I also got to collaborate and work in roles not defined in my position as a reporter. For much of this year, I helped wherever I could, creating announcements, making posters, running party games, handling sign-ups, updating documents, and managing events such as our bi-annual blood drives. Combining this year along with last year, I’ve worked with every single officer directly to accomplish a task - from start to finish.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
To put it shortly in two points: (1) I want to see this organization go further. The officers of GOHOSA do much more than they are credited for, and much more than meets the public eye, or should I say “the member’s eye.” Behind the scenes is a cloud of hustle and bustle, as there’s almost always something that must be done or planned out. The officers, carry those tasks out, and sometimes even put things together. They are a critical part to the success of this organization and push GOHOSA higher up on the scales. Within one year, thanks to our officer’s remarkable work and efforts this organization rose to new heights in ways more than one. In commitment, participation, competitive achievements, and energy. I want to be a part of that next year. (2) I can’t see myself not being a GOHOSA officer. It’s simple, I’ve done this for a while and I can’t see myself anywhere else.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
The work of the Vice President this year, essentially, is outreach. My freshman year, I worked specifically in outreach whilst in AP Ambassadors last year. One of the biggest projects I took part in was speaking with incoming students at open house/freshman orientation. For the entirety of the event, I spoke with both students and parents regarding academic courses and rigor, providing them with information and insight that would be useful to them when deciding what classes to choose for the first year of high school. In addition to AP Ambassadors, I also dedicate myself to tutoring/mentoring many of my classmates outside of school when I’m available. Most of my peers know me to have a good amount of knowledge and understanding in subjects, more so pertaining to math and science, and reach out to me for help regarding their studies. Tutoring does not just show that I’m intelligent, but also that I’m responsible and rather trustworthy amongst my peers.
Tell us more about yourself.
Outside of school, I’m a teenager just like my fellow peers. I’m an A honor roll student, interested in biomedical engineering, and after obtaining my bachelor’s degree, a career as an OBGYN and/or Neonatologist. I enjoy painting, drawing, and listening to music. And I love to read. *Give me book recommendations if you have any!* I come from a family of immigrants, who have taught me to be just as outgoing and ambitious as respectful and realistic. I appreciate diversity of all kinds, differences of opinion, and new ideas. My friends and family would describe me as devoted, funny, depending on who you ask: either quiet or really loud, witty, blunt, and loyal. But no matter who you ask, anyone can tell you that I truly love being a part of GOHOSA.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
My goals as Vice President:
- Renew community relationships.
- Generate inter-club/inter-organization connections through collaborative events that would benefit members of GOHOSA and also participating clubs/organizations.
- Boost member participation and commitment by offering more engaging events, incentives, and opportunities.
- Provide more medical-based community service opportunities and experiences in both fun and innovative ways.
- Increase member-officer collaboration.
- Improve presence within the student body and administration - we are one of GOHS’s largest organizations and it is important that our achievements, events, and members are not only recognized but taken seriously.

Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I am qualified for this position because I am a very good communicator and problem solver. I am very enthusiastic and will be able to get people excited about joining HOSA. I have experience organizing service projects for groups of people which is why I feel like I am especially qualified for the role of vice president. I have connections in the medical field and would be able to get guests speakers to come and talk to us.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I want to be an officer because I want HOSA to get more involved in and make a difference in our community.I have a lot of ideas for what we can do for service projects (that we haven't done before) that would be both beneficial to the those we serve as well as fun for us, and being a HOSA officer would allow me to make these ideas happen.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I was a youth leader in my church organization for 4 years. I organized and planned out various activities for a large group of people. I became skilled at communicating clearly with others as well as delegating tasks. When issues occurred I was able to sort them out. I became very good at problem solving throughout my years leading my youth group. I have also been a camp counselor which has given me the opportunity to work with others and has improved my ability to compromise and listen to what everyone has to say. This experience also allowed me to help motivate others and get them excited for things. Last summer I was a volunteer swim coach and was able to be a role model to the kids I coached. Being in this type of leadership role taught me how to explain ideas in a way that was easy to understand and helpful.
Tell us more about yourself.
I swim and play water polo at our school and I love to bake, play piano, teach swim lessons, travel, and go boating.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
I would love to see HOSA get involved in helping out the refugees in our community and host supply drives for them. I also want to host a special needs carnival for the kids at our school to help raise awareness and help them feel more welcome at our school. I think it would be fun if we were able to go help out the old folks homes by playing bingo with them and providing other activities for them. Doing things like decorating lunch bags for food insecure kids in our community and providing food drives for them is something that I think HOSA could easily do and would be very helpful. Working with Matthew's Birthday Wish foundation is is something I would like to see this organization do. I would like to bring in a guest speaker (doctors, surgeons, nurses, etc.) at some of our meetings.

I am qualified to be a HOSA officer because I am really hardworking and love doing team work and problem solving has always been one of my top priorities.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I really like HOSA and being a member of it so I think that being an officer for HOSA would be a better position for me and I have all of the requirements and qualifications to be a secretary.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I have been president, historian, and secretary for other clubs in Grand Oaks so I am pretty experienced. I also did competition with HOSA before and take medical classes at Grand Oaks.

For HOSA, I would really like to have food out to all of the members during each meeting so many people can come to them and not only the seasonal parties. Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I have been an active member of HOSA for 3 years. I am organized and responsible, so administrative tasks and paperwork will be properly handled. I know that keeping up with things in high school can be a challenge. Thus, I will make sure that newsletters are informative, and I will ensure that all vital information is communicated clearly and effectively.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I really want to get more involved in my last year at Grand Oaks. Sure, I've participated in student organizations, but I wouldn't say that I've ever been in a position to contribute in a significant way. As a HOSA officer, I would gain that opportunity, and since I've been in HOSA for so long and actively participated in volunteer work/competition, I think it would be the best organization to devote my time to.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I was a Student Athletic Trainer my Sophomore year, and I take the lead in most group projects. I have also worked as a peer tutor since I began high school.
Tell us more about yourself.
I was born in Houston but have lived in both Virginia and Belgium. I did gymnastics for a decade, and I attend a second school - Stanford Online High School - outside of Grand Oaks as a single course student. I've been interested in the health care field since I was a child, and I hope to pursue career in research.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
- More skill workshops (like the CPR one this year)
- Health Science class tutoring/assistance
- Care packages for doctors, nurses, and EMTs

Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I believe I am qualified to be a HOSA officer for the reason that I have already been on the officer team and I understand the dynamic of how we work and exactly what each position should do and how it should be done. I believe I am qualified to be HOSA's secretary because I have great organizational skills as well as very trustworthy and reliable. I can get the tasks I am given done fast and efficiently.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I want to be a HOSA officer because I love the dynamic of how the officer team works and I want to be behind the scenes and gain more insight of the medical field. Being on the team this year has shown me how much i absolutely love being exposed to the medical field and other people who share the same interests as me. Being on the officer team allows me to be behind the scenes and be introduced to new opportunities to follow my career pathway as well as interact with people who are as serious as me about what I love. The HOSA officer team is a close knit family that I had the honor to be apart of this year and I only hope to get the chance to be apart of it again and make a impact on our members next year.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I have previous leadership experience as being the CEO of my current business. As being the CEO of a school-based business, Grizzlets, which is currently up and running, I am in charge of delegating tasks to my teams and managing the employees of the business. I have to have good communication to be able to get through to the employees and make sure that they understand what is required and how they should do it. I also have good leadership skills and teamwork skills. My teamwork skills allow me to be open and able to work with my team and bounce ideas off of eachother. I like to work in an environment where I know that my team trusts me and they know I trust them.
Tell us more about yourself.
I am a rising Junior with a love and passion for the medical field. I have taken two classes on the healthcare pathway and next year I plan on taking two more. I aspire to be a cardiothoracic surgeon and go to school at Johns Hopkins. I absolutely loving participating in community service and I also really like school and reading.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
Next year some ideas I have is to more workshops including workshops for the general members not just competition members to be able to get them more active in HOSA. We could go over the basics of first aid and CPR(again). We would do this because though most members are enrolled in a healthcare class, there are a handful of members that were not able to because of double block scheduling and doing these workshops will give them an opportunity to do medical things without being in a healthcare class. I think we should also do more food drives. It doesn't have to be far but maybe more local food drives. I know from the members that they always enjoy food drives and I think it would be great to give back and give our members a chance to interact with won another more often.

I realize that a HOSA officer position requires a lot of time and effort, but I am up for the challenge! Lastly, I feel like I am qualified to be treasurer because I have a passion for and enjoy math. I have tried out HOSA competition this year and earned fourth place in Medical Math. I strive to be more involved in this prestigious, self-led organization, and I feel being a HOSA officer will allow me to do just that.

What previous leadership experience do you have?
I am highly involved in school in terms of extracurricular activities and student organizations. Although I haven’t been in many leadership positions, I feel like I have a good idea of how student organizations run just from being a member. I am a part of the school’s debate team, National Spanish Honor Society, AP ambassadors, and of course HOSA. Being a part of the school’s debate team has allowed me to value the importance of teamwork and patience. I feel like debate has allowed me to grow to be a better speaker and communicator as well as learn how to be a part of different teams. National Spanish Honor Society and HOSA have taught me the importance of helping out in the community. All things considered, I feel like being a part of these organizations has taught me skills that are crucial to have with the HOSA officer position.

Competition Chair
Fabian De La Cruz
Why are you qualified to be a HOSA officer?
I competed in my first year as a HOSA member and became very talkative with the other officers. I learned what worked well and what didn't work well. I spoke some with Diana (our previous competition chair) directly to get specifics on what the job of comp chair is like. The job is exciting and fits my good work habits and my initiative.
Why do you want to be a HOSA officer?
I want to get a taste of the behind the scenes for our chapter. I want to see how everything comes together for meetings and community service and other opportunities. And what better way to do that than to get into the officer circle and start making changes behind the scenes myself.
What previous leadership experience do you have?
I have always been told I am a great leader with an amazing voice to get people on my side. With my voice and my enthusiasm I see no reason why our chapter, specifically for competition, wouldn't grow.
Tell us more about yourself.
I am a Sophomore and have been a HOSA member for 1 year. I competed this year in the CPR&First Aid competition which requires a lot of practice, studying, and initiative to get work done. I have also been a student athlete for 6 years which has kept my schedule very busy in the past. I am also taking Dual Credit classes this year and plan to take more DC and AP classes in the coming years. This will keep me busy and will require a lot of work ethic that I have. Which is perfect for the competition chair position.
Please list any ideas you have for the upcoming school year:
I want to incorporate the other officers and interns into the position as well to make this job less stressful for future comp chairs. I also plan to help out the other officers and be an active part of the chapter when it comes to community service and other opportunities. I plan to make competition seem fun and enjoyable while also making people want to succeed. My participation in the officer group for HOSA will allow our chapter's competition participation and general participation to grow as a whole.
